ABout The Northwest Indiana Genealogical SocietyThe Northwest Indiana Genealogical society (NWIGS) is a volunteer run non-profit organization that preserves and shares the history and genealogy of Lake County and Porter Counties in Indiana. It hosts monthly classes in-person and online, publishes a monthly newsletter, and creates resources to help you with your research and learn about genealogy and family history.
Meetings & ClassesAt our monthly meetings, we invite local and national experts to share information that will help you become a more effective genealogist. Attendees are also invited to share their genealogical discoveries at our occasional sharing sessions.

We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Purpose: The NORTHWEST INDIANA GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY is a non-profit organization whose objectives are to collect, preserve and disseminate knowledge and information with reference to genealogy, history, biography and heraldry; to promote and sustain interest in the study of these fields; to pool interest and aid individual members of the Society; and to issue publications relating to genealogy.
